The Arroyo Arts Collective is looking for artists working in new media who are interested in developing projects using images taken from old photographs ofNortheast Los Angeles. Artists who work in installation, performance, music, video, and new media or other fine arts practices, will be asked to develop temporary projects onsite at the historic home of Charles Fletcher Lummis operated inHighland Park by the Historical Society of Southern California. Bringing the Past To Light will run from May 17 through June 14.

Charles Fletcher Lummis

At the dawn of the twentieth century, Charles Fletcher Lummis – photographer, journalist, preservationist, anthropologist – invited artists, poets and musicians to his handmade home, El Alisal, to re-envision life inLos Angeles. Today, the Arroyo Arts Collective invites artists to delve into the rich photo archives ofNortheast Los Angeles and to create projects inspired by these images in the house and on the grounds
of the century-old Lummis home. In the enchanting rooms and gardens of El Alisal what types of lively conversations might the past have with the present and the future?
