On June 1, 2009, artists of all types, working in any medium, at any stage in their career and from any geographic area are invited to apply for one of the 54 live/work units at the new Working Artists Ventura (WAV), located in the cultural district of downtown Ventura, California at the corner of Ventura Avenue and Thompson Boulevard. Applications are due JUNE 15th, 2009.

PLACE, a nonprofit developer working with the City of Ventura to create this unique mixed-use, mixed-income community, has contracted with The John Stewart Company to manage the application and selection process.

The WAV project is a state-of-the-art community designed for artists and creative businesses that will open for full occupancy beginning in September 2009. WAV offers 54 units of affordable living and working space for artists, another 15 Supportive Housing units that will provide homes and crucial services to those at the lowest end of the income scale, as well as 13 market-rate condominiums, half of which have already been purchased. The community also includes 6,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, a gallery/theater space and numerous outdoor common garden areas and patio spaces.

Applications will automatically be sent via e-mail to anyone who is signed up on the PLACE mailing list (www.place.us), or they can be picked up in person at the Community Services office at Ventura City Hall (501 Poli Street. Room 226, second floor) beginning on Monday, June 1, 2009.

If you wish to have an application mailed to you, please leave a voicemail message with your full name, mailing address and zip code for Deborah Hazen at (805) 658-4794. Applications will also be available at the offices of The John Stewart Company in Los Angeles, at 624 S. Grand Ave., Ste. 2500, Los Angeles, CA 90017.
