The Civility Show - Call for Artists
March 28 - April 21, 2011

The Amelie A. Wallace Gallery at State University of New York College at Old
Westbury invites submissions for our upcoming group exhibition entitled,
“The Civility Show.” In light of recent events, and a seemingly increasing
violent culture of attempted political assassination, campus shootings and
school bullying, our public figures have called for and have pledged to a
new civility. What does civility mean to you? How do you interpret civility
from your social, critical and aesthetic perspectives? What role can visual
art, and indeed all art, play in such a call? What is the relationship
between civility and civilization? How can we be more civil in our
day-to-day human interactions, as well as in our more formal institutional
and political debates? How can we measure it?
The Civility Show would like to showcase a collection of hopeful, positive
images that reflect on, perpetuate and inspire a new sense of cultural
dialogue, cooperation and community.

DEADLINE: Postmarked Friday, March 4, 2011

All artwork are limited to a 4" x 6" postcard format. Painting, drawing,
photography, printmaking and mixed media are all welcome. In the spirit of a
shared citizenry and an inclusive sense of community, the exhibition is open
to all professional and amateur artists; student, faculty and staff of our
campus and other campuses, and to any inspired citizen of our country and
other countries, who would like to contribute their voice to our efforts.
