Job Title: Gallery Coordinator
Department: Public Art & Design
Reports to: Director of Public Art & Design
Salary: This is a part-time position (20-25hrs /week) at a rate of $12.00-$15.00/hr

Position Description: This is a part-time hourly as-needed position, up to 25 hours per week. The Gallery Coordinator reports to the Director of Public Art and Design and is responsible for assisting in all aspects of development, installation, promotion, and management of the Collaborative’s rotating exhibitions and programs.

About the Collaborative: The Collaborative is a joint project of the Arts Council for Long Beach and the Museum of Latin American Art, which presents exhibitions that raise awareness of both emerging artists and new innovative approaches to art. This project is funded by Lyon Communities through the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency's Percent for Public Art Policy and is located on the ground floor of the Gallery 421, a new mixed used residential development by Lyon Communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Exhibition planning
-Work closely with Director of Public Art and Design to develop an annual call-to-artists/curators
-Research and verify exhibition information
-Communicate with artists and exhibition lenders
-Coordinate with public relations and educational staff, including volunteers

2. Installation
-Coordinate with artists, curators and MOLAA staff regarding the gallery schedule and installation timelines
-Coordinate with preparatory staff for the installation of artwork

3. Publications
-Prepare press releases and educational materials
-Coordinate photographic documentation of exhibitions
-Assist in the design, production and dissemination of exhibition announcements via print and email blasts
-Maintain social media for the Collaborative – Arts Council website and Facebook
-Archive exhibitions on Arts Council website

4. General curatorial and clerical support
-Facilitate exhibition-related events, such as receptions and lectures
-Staff the gallery during regular gallery hours
-Answer routine correspondence, including telephone and email queries
-Update exhibition and mailing list databases
-Coordinator volunteers for the gallery, as needed

Qualifications: The Gallery Coordinator must be self-motivated, flexible, and willing to multi-task. The ideal candidate will view this position at the Arts Council for Long Beach as an opportunity to gain broad experience in the field of contemporary art.
Desired Skills and Abilities

-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
-Experience in records maintenance
-Understanding of appropriate handling, crating, and storage of artwork
-Some knowledge of exhibit preparation procedures
-Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, and database software such as Filemaker Pro.
-Working knowledge of Adobe design software, such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
-Willingness to become informed about gallery operating standards and best practices
-Knowledge of the contemporary art community in the Greater Los Angele Area
Hours: Part-Time, average 20 hours per week (no more than 1,000 hours per year).
Candidate must be available some weekends and evenings.
