JUROR GEORGE FISHMAN
George Fishman has designed and executed mosaic commissions since 1989 for
municipal, corporate, hospitality, religious and residential clients --
identifying projects' thematic and functional requirements and implementing them
from design to installation. Projects include medallions, murals, columns, pools
and fountains in eleven states. He received a fine arts degree from the
University of Pennsylvania and teaching certification from Colorado State
University in 1976. His college studies included painting, sculpture, drawing,
art history, ceramics and industrial arts.
His experience in construction, aircraft welding and exhibition preparation
provide strong technical orientation. His mastery of mosaic methods comes
principally from years of experimentation, beginning in the late 1980s, copying
ancient mosaics. In recent years he has also taken and presented workshops to
deepen and share his skills. He has given historic, technical and design
presentations at professional conferences and to architecture students. Has
served on several boards and helped start a non-profit arts organization on
Miami Beach in the mid 1980's. He was co-editor of Groutline (the Society of
American Mosaic Artists' newsletter) for five years; also has contributed to
several books and written articles for trade publications.
