DCA GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS

Guidelines and application forms for the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) 2012-2013 Individual Artist Grants are now available on the DCA website (culturela.org/grants/index.html). DCA offers grants to individual artists for community residencies and artist fellowships.

The City of Los Angeles offers fellowships annually to honor 10-15 of Los Angeles' most creative design, literary, media, performing and visual artists. These awards allow the selected architects, graphic/product designers, poets, fiction writers, video/filmmakers, choreographers-dancers, musicians, theatrical performance artists, sculptors, painters and photographers to create new works that the City premieres in one or more group presentations. Eligible artists must demonstrate an active exhibition and/or production record of at least 15 years, which may include productions/presentations while the applicant was a student.

The Residency Program supports artists in providing community-based projects in non-arts venues, schools or underserved sites within the City of Los Angeles in order to reach audiences with little or no exposure to artistic and cultural opportunities. Residencies engage participants in a series of artist-led workshops that are highly participatory and/or educational, and which match thoughtful and meaningful exchanges with appropriate audiences. Historically DCA has strived to provide at least one residency project in each of the City's 15 Council Districts. Eligible applicants must demonstrate at least two years of experience in instructing participants in arts education, training or group collaboration.

Applications for residencies are due Friday, October 14 and fellowship applications are due Friday, October 28. Applicants may apply to both programs with category-appropriate submissions.

DCA will start offering workshops for the residency program on Thursday, September 22, at the Eagle Rock Branch Library, 5027 Caspar Ave., from 6:00– 7:45pm, and for fellowships on Thursday, September 29, at the Studio City Branch Library, 12511 Moorpark Street, 6:00 - 7:45pm.

A full listing of this year's individual artist grant workshops is available at culturela.org/grants/index.html (click the green link for "Free Informational Workshops for Individual Artists Fall 2011").

Please contact Cultural Affairs Grants Administration Division staff at (213) 202-5566 or at dca.grants@lacity.org with any questions about the application.
