Call for Visual Artist/Muralist Palms Neighborhood LA Commons is searching for a Lead Artist to work with a core Youth Arts Team (Age 15-25) to collect neighborhood stories at the sites and design and paint images on Utility boxes in Palms Neighborhood. Youth Arts team members will also be paid a stipend for their work. LA Commons will coordinate Project partners, supply acquisition, workshop space and recruiting the Youth Arts team. Two lead artists will be hired to each work with a youth team to design and paint 4 utility boxes.
Project Partners: LA Commons, Palms Neighborhood Association, Office of LA City Councilman Herb Wesson and Hamilton High School.
The Role the Lead Artist/Designer in this project will be:1. To participate in story/image gathering process and events with the group to inform the designs for the utility boxes.2. To mentor the Core Youth Arts team to foster youth in the development of skills in image making and design in weekly workshop.3. To create the overall visual identity and cohesiveness for the utility boxes featured in the project and successfully complete the design approval and painting process.

Artist Qualifications1. Experience in Mural Painting and Design2. Experience working with youth and community3. Familiarity and experience with Palms Neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Compensation$2000 stipend for Lead Artist
