IN THE NEWS

California Foundations Saw Significant Growth Between 1999 and 2009. A report completed by the USC Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy found that over the 10-year period the number of foundations grew by 71%, topping 7,100. The report also found that contributions to foundations more than doubled, to $6 billion; that the value of their assets grew by more than a third, to $93.3 billion; and that foundation growth in the state outpaced national trends over the period. FULL ARTICLE: Walters, Dan. “California Foundations Show Big Growth From 1999 to 2009.” Sacramento Bee 2/28/12.

RECOMMENDATIONS

"Non-profits are taking a back-to-basics approach, focusing on reaching out to loyal and wealthy donors, as they seek to overcome continued challenges from the sputtering economy..." (Chronicle of Philanthropy, online edition, July 2011). It goes without saying that individual donors play a key role in sustainability for non-profit organizations and institutions.

It is my pleasure to recommend my colleague and fellow trainer, William Moreno, a highly experienced executive director and development expert to serve as your consultant in developing mutually beneficial relationships with individual donors and foundations. You can contact Mr. Moreno at w@wmorenoconsult.com or 213.804.5901.

A to Z GRANTWRITING PRESENTER - ARTIST LINDA VALLEJO

Vallejo was recently been included in The California/International Arts Foundation’s new encyclopedia “L.A. Rising: SoCal Artists Before 1980” compiled by Lyn Kienholz and supported in part by the Getty Foundation. Her work was included in two exhibitions of the Getty Foundation’s city-wide initiative, Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945-1980. Vallejo will appear in “Mapping Another LA: The Chicano Art Movement” curated by Pilar Tompkins Rivas, Tere Romo, and Chon Noriega opening October 2011 at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. This exhibition is part of “L.A. Xicano,” a unique collaboration between UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center and three museums. Vallejo was included in “Doin’ It in Public: Art and Feminism at the Woman’s Building” in October 2011 at the Ben Maltz Gallery, Otis College of Art. Vallejo’s “A Prayer for the Earth Eco Installation” solo exhibition is now being presented at the Southwest Museum, TX, and is scheduled for presentation at the McNider Museum, Iowa in April 2012 respectively.
