PART TIME JOB OPPORTUNITY

INTERN II--(Torrance Art Museum Event Coordinator)
CULTURAL SERVICES DIVISION--SALARY $16.09 per hour

The City of Torrance Community Services Department is currently accepting applications for one Intern II (Event Coordinator) at the Torrance Art Museum (TAM), a program of the Cultural Services Division.

DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision of the TAM Curator, the Intern II (Event Coordinator) will initiate and facilitate special events and programs at the TAM, including museum events (panel discussions and film showings) and rentals (weddings, meetings and parties.) This is a part time as needed position, budgeted for an average of 52 hours per month (624 hours annually.) Previous experience working in a cultural facility with an active rental program is desired.

DUTIES:
* Coordinate with Museum staff and volunteers on all public programs, including set up requirements and publicity.
* Respond to public inquiries regarding rental availability;
* Coordinate public rental events;
* Serve as primary contact for renters and their subcontractors, such as chair rental companies;
* Supervise staff assisting with events;
* Report Facility maintenance issues as needed;
* Actively promote TAM for rentals;
* Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
* Proper handling of art objects in order to set up events around exhibitions
* Common rental and catering practices
* Microsoft Word and Excel programs
* Exceptional Customer Service practices
* Facility marketing and renting strategies.

ABILITY TO:
* Work independently and within time constraints and deadlines;
* Work and attend all rental events and TAM programs, including evenings and weekends;
* Read, write and comprehend instructions in English;
* Exercise Common Sense
* Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work including renters, fellow employees and other City representatives, curators, artists and outside vendors.
* Research and learn a facility rental computer program;
* Set up and break down chairs and tables.
* Learn and follow proper procedures for handling cash and payments
* Learn and follow emergency procedures.

HOURS:

Maximum 52 hours per month. Hours are flexible and will include evenings and weekends.
