Job Title: Director of Development & Administration
Reports to: Artistic Director
Hours: 20 Hours per Week Minimum
Note: This is a Part-Time Position with the opportunity to become Full
Time Based Upon Performance

Organization Overview:

Founded in 1999, Opera Noir's mission is to promote cultural diversity in the
classical arts. The organization is committed to preserving and performing
the works of African American composers in addition to traditional
European Classical Music. With Executive Offices in Northern California
serving and supporting programs and productions in Los Angeles and the
San Francisco Bay Area, Opera Noir provides arts education and cultural
experiences for underserved children, and brings the beauty of classical
music to inner city residents. Since its inception in 1999, Opera Noir has
worked tirelessly to address some of the most critical needs of our society:
increasing diversity, expanding educational opportunities, providing training
and employment opportunities for our youth, and showing support for
performing arts.

For fourteen (14) years, Opera Noir has been the only organization in Los
Angeles, and The Bay Area, and one of fewer than five nationally, that
is committed to providing paid performance opportunities for classically
trained artists of color in leading roles. The organization promotes and
preserves African American culture through education, performance,
creative activities and outreach; facilitates the dissemination of music by
African American composers; and, incorporates artists of color into all
facets of each production both behind the scenes and on stage. Opera Noir
productions give audiences a shared cultural experience and an opportunity
to initiate a dialogue around cultural diversity in the arts.

Position Summary:

The Director of Development and Administration provides executive

leadership to Opera Noir and reports directly to the Artistic Director, while
working closely with the Board of Directors. The scope of responsibility
includes direct support to the Artistic Director, the Board of Directors
and Community Advisory Board; comprehensive fundraising; marketing,
community outreach and audience development; event planning and
management; and administrative support for the fund raising events and
productions of Opera Noir.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support to, and work closely with Opera Noir Artistic Director
and Board of Directors (consisting of up to 15 members), to ensure strong
fiscal health, sustain positive governmental and community relations,
increase overall visibility, recruit new Board members, and otherwise fulfill
organization' s mission
• Develop and manage annual budget of $750,000+
• Develop and execute annual fundraising plan, including securing corporate
sponsorships; identifying foundation and government funding sources;
writing grants; cultivating individual donors; grants management and
reporting; and producing benefit events
• Develop outreach initiatives and programming which are inclusive of
surrounding communities
• Support the vision of the Artistic Director to produce innovative,
artistically diverse, high-quality productions and season series
• Develop strategy to effectively recruit and utilize volunteers during
production season and year-round
• Develop and manage all communications including marketing, public
relations and social media
• Serve and support the Branding Strategy of positioning the Artistic
Director as the public face of organization, while also clearly articulating the
Company mission, programs and impact to increase visibility of Opera Noir
and enhance the organization' s reputation and standing
• Cultivate community relationships and develop strategic partnerships with
local and regional organizations
• Maintain relationships with Funders, elected officials, and community
stakeholders
• Work closely with Board committees to develop and implement specific
goals and objectives

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years nonprofit management experience, performing arts
preferred
• Minimum 3 years development experience with demonstrated success in
grant writing, sponsorships, special events, and donor cultivation
• Exceptional budgeting and fiscal management skills
• Previous experience with marketing and/or public relations
• High level of leadership, strategic thinking and presentation skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong communicator, able to effectively share Opera Noir's mission with
corporate leaders, foundation officers, individual donors and the general
public
• Superior skills in problem solving, setting priorities, delegating, meeting
deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and multi-tasking
• Ability to work with performing artists and technical contractors
• Commitment to serving Los Angeles and Bay Area communities
• Energetic willingness to work hands-on in executing Opera Noir's
strategies, initiatives and programs
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree
preferred
