As one of the most highly respected performing arts centers in the United States, The Music Center each year attracts nearly two million people to its four venues as well as to its outdoor theaters, plazas and gardens. The Music Center is home to four internationally acclaimed resident companies: Los Angeles Philharmonic, Center Theatre Group, LA Opera and Los Angeles Master Chorale. In addition, The Music Center produces a wide range of its own programming, including Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, World City, Active Arts, as well as special productions and events for children and families throughout the year. It also provides extensive services as well as regional and national leadership to support arts education in grades K-12.

The position will market, manage and administer the in-school assembly and performances program, Music Center on Tour (MCOT), in schools and other educational/community settings across Southern California. MCOT brings outstanding professional artists to perform in schools, where students are introduced to new art forms and a variety of world cultures. He/she will be responsible for marketing MCOT performances and cultivating relationships with various education stakeholders including district arts coordinators, principals, teachers and parents. At a time when school budgets are constrained, proactive outreach and innovative marketing are essential.

Working under general direction and reporting to the Director of School Programs the successful candidate will work closely with other Music Center staff; school principals; district art coordinators; principals, teachers, and parents. He/she must be able to work independently across Los Angeles County and surrounding areas and develop relationships with local education stakeholders, as well as maintaining consistent and regular contact with parent groups, schools, performing artists and teachers in order to ensure successful implementation of arts education programs. Prior experience in sales, with successful achievement of annual earned revenue goals is highly desirable.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Marketing

•Collaborate and cultivate relationships across schools and districts in and around Los Angeles County to identify and develop opportunities for growth of MCOT programs.

•Market and sell directly to schools MCOT programs based on schools requests and profile needs.

•Initiate contact with lapsed schools for continued participation; initiate contact with prospective new schools and agencies making presentations and developing business relationships.

•Provide outreach by organizing regional marketing events to promote Music Center education initiatives and services; participate and make presentations at school functions and local business or chamber of commerce meetings.

•Deliver presentations to schools, social service agencies, staff members and parents including creating and preparing all distributed materials.

•Participate in on-site Music Center education initiatives and marketing events as assigned.

Performance Scheduling

•Fulfill requests from schools and community centers for assemblies utilizing the Music Center's roster of performing artists.

•Work closely with school coordinators to schedule performances into schools. Works closely with school and community coordinators to design MCOT roster artists and content based on a requests and needs.

•Maintain calendars for all Music Center on Tour roster artists.

•Process all contracts and invoices for services.

•Works closely with Artistic Director in order to learn and understand the profiles and expertise of all MCOT roster artists.

Project Development, Program Implementation and Facilitation

•Plan with performing artists and teachers to identify programming needs/curricular goals and assess most suitable MCOT site-specific projects for each school/agency. Work collaboratively with artists, schools/agencies and other education staff to plan and refine program content, curriculum and logistics on an on-going basis; work closely with school/agency arts coordinators to select artists based on program objectives, budget, facilities and artist availability.

•Manage individual aspects of MCOT program implementation including preparing and presenting program proposals; creating and providing budget estimates to schools; and scheduling activities in coordination with artists, teachers and school/agency administrators.

•Oversees data management for programs; maintains project database, budgets and statistics. Prepare, process, and distribute project documents to schools and artists in a timely manner. Verify activities and dates of services rendered and approves payments to artists. Prepare school invoicing and tracks payments.

•Work with Music Center Senior Management to develop annual income goals and sales targets.

Administrative/Organizational Maintenance and Development

•Collect, compile and distribute evaluation materials completed by each school/agency.

•Assist with compilation and preparation of materials for grant applications and reporting.

•Maintain statistical data for year-end reports.

•Collaborate with other Music Center staff to update and prepare instructional materials and technical directions/instructions to reflect current educational guidelines, as needed.

•Work collaboratively with other staff to improve services and systems through participation in staff meetings.

•Participate in professional development to improve knowledge and understanding of artists, curriculum, program administration and program design; and associated skills and applications.

Required Qualifications & Desired Skills include:
BA degree in Business Management, Communications, Arts Administration, Public Administration, or a related field of study.

Must have 2 – 3 years minimum experience in marketing and promotions

1-3 years' experience in arts administration and/or arts education is preferred

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, forming solid business and colleague relationships as well as demonstrated ability to cultivate new relationships; ability to successfully network and develop and maintain professional relationships including support organizations, public agencies, and school districts

Verifiable experience that involved networking with business organizations, including conducting presentations and solicitation meetings to potential clients.

Entrepreneurial skills with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for additional revenue streams and partnership.

Excellent facilitation and phone skills; strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide variety of staff and outside representatives from the educational environment, artistic and political community.

Ability to efficiently manage time and workload including planning, prioritizing, organizing; follow-through on a variety of tasks, assignments, projects and reports; comfortable in a fast paced, busy, deadline driven office environment

Excellent skills in operating personal computer hardware and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software required. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and ACT! Database helpful.

Heavy phones and data entry.

Must be able to able to work flexible schedule; work overtime hours as required including working weekends as needed.

Must have reliable source of transportation to sites throughout Los Angeles County.

Salary range: $48,000 - $52,000 a year commensurate with experience.
