Inside Out Community Arts is a nationally award-winning non-profit arts
education organization founded in 1997, which founded a social enterprise
program called Teen Media Initiative (TMI) in 2009 which trains and employs “Teen Techies” in web-based skills,
specifically website and blog creation from templates, and using social media
and networking sites for professional purposes.  The Teen Techies also learn customer service and market their skills in
order to secure paying adult clients who need their services to “get
connected”.  TMI’s clients have included
small business owners, private practitioners, leaders of organizations,
teachers and artists.  In addition to
teaching web-based technical skills and hiring Teen Techies, TMI also teaches
its participants about entrepreneurship, customer service, financial literacy,
community building, leadership and philanthropy.
 
IMMEDIATE
OPENING:  TMI is seeking an
Assistant Instructor to fulfill a one-year contract teaching opportunity.  This position involves assisting at weekly
after-school workshops, and some weekend events as needed, primarily located in
Hawthorne with some Venice meetings.  The
Assistant Instructor needs experience with web-based technology, such as
building websites from templates such as WordPress, and using social media
sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, LinkedIn for professional
purposes.  Assistant Instructor needs
experience teaching diverse groups of students ages 14-19.  Instructor needs to be a team player who can
also work independently, with a flexible teaching style and the ability to
adapt to student and curriculum needs.
 
Responsibilities:
* ·       Report
to TMI Lead Instructor and Program Manager

* ·       Assist
TMI Lead Instructor at all scheduled TMI workshops

* ·       Assist
Lead Instructor with set-up and/or clean-up for all scheduled workshops

* ·       Assist
Lead Instructor with teaching lessons as assigned

* ·       Actively
peruse the room while Lead Instructor teaches and assist 1-1 with Teen Techies
as needed

* ·       Help
solve technical issues in the computer lab classroom if they arise

* ·       Outreach
to potential beta clients, clients and volunteers

* ·       Make
weekly phone calls to teen participants as assigned

* ·       Assist
TMI Program Manager and/or Coordinator with recruitment as needed

* ·       Assist
with responding to inquires via the general TMI email and phone

* ·       Assist
with scheduling adult clients for the Teen Techies

* Monthly check-in meetings with TMI program staff
* Available to attend 1-2 of Inside Out Community Arts’ methodology training workshops (2 hours each, located in Venice, weeknight and weekend options)
* ·       Adhere
to Inside Out’s child safety and mandated reporting procedures
