The Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) is committed to an academic studio-based education for students in fine art, design, craft and digital media. ACAD is looking for an inspired and inspiring educator and researcher to join the faculty in Painting. ACAD seeks a talented individual who thrives on building community and cultivating curricular growth.

The role
The School of Visual Art invites applications for a permanent faculty position in Painting, commencing in the fall term of the 2015–2016 academic year. The successful candidate will be a person who can design and deliver contemporary curriculum at all levels of the BFA Painting program, who maintains an active professional/research/studio practice, and who will support the College through engagement in service. Candidates who demonstrate excellence in pedagogical initiatives in the classroom studio and who can further the diversity of the program will be of particular interest. The assignment of rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The candidate
The successful candidate will:
– Hold an MFA degree, or an equivalent or higher degree in visual art (an equivalent combination of education and professional practice may be considered)
– Have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level for a minimum of three years
– Provide evidence of an active professional artistic research practice
– Demonstrate a commitment to innovation in teaching and learning, as well as an active engagement in scholarly and creative activities
– Possess an understanding of transferable learning skills that allows for the possibility of teaching courses in other program areas
– Possess a broad knowledge of contemporary art practices, concepts, and theories
– Be committed to an environment that is diverse and inclusive, and which fosters rigorous and responsible learning that reaches beyond disciplines
– Be community-minded, collegial, and team-oriented

– A digital portfolio documenting 15 examples of your current artwork, with dates and other relevant information
– A current curriculum vitae
– A statement that articulates your artistic practice and research
– A statement of teaching philosophy
– A list of classes taught to date
– Evidence of teaching excellence, such as examples of syllabi, assessment rubrics, project briefs, and student evaluations
– The names and contact information of three professional references

Short-listed candidates will be expected to give a presentation of their art and teaching practices to the hiring committee as part of the interview process.
