The Craft & Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Curator of Public Engagement to develop public programs that promote making, explore the leading edge of craft, art, and design, and further elevate the reputation and recognition of the museum as a vital forum to challenge preconceived notions of contemporary craft. The Curator of Public Engagement will be an innovative thinker and maker, responsible for developing relationships with the public and implementing robust exhibition-related programs that explore the state of contemporary craft and some contemporary folk art.

Qualifications (Overview)Excellent interpretive, writing, presentation/public speaking, and communication skills, and the ability to design and implement public programs that educate and engage diverse audiences. The successful candidate will be fluent in best professional practices, will highly value public access and is personally involved in some form of craft. The ideal candidate will assist with fundraising for programs and work collaboratively with CAFAM Exhibitions Team. Master’s degree in art, museum studies, or a related field and 2-3 years professional museum experience required.
Essential duties: This position reports to the Executive Director.
Public Programs:Develop, oversee, and implement CAFAM's Public Engagement Programs including:- Build partnerships that enhance community engagement.- Create public engagement projects for groups related to exhibitions and ongoing programs- Provide leadership and direct instruction for some workshops- Screen, hire & supervise contract or volunteer workshop instructors (contracts & payments, supplies, registration) for Craft Night, CraftLab and other workshops.- Develop program listings for museum online and printed calendars and program descriptions.- Responsible for designing and implementing a museum gallery tour program; provide gallery tours to individuals and groups, as needed
Exhibitions:- Develop in-gallery projects with Exhibitions Team- Works cooperatively with the museum’s Exhibitions Team, which includes the Exhibition Curator, the Exhibitions Manager, and the Executive Director.
Interns/Volunteers:- Select and oversee museum interns- Some recruitment/selection/training of program related volunteers and interns
Other:- Participate in the development of grants and the cultivation of donors.- Other job related duties as assigned
