PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Focus on Public Engagement
The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is accepting applications for its Artist Residency Program, which provides studio space for two artists during the 2015-2016 season, one during Sept-Dec 2015, the other running Feb-May 2016. These two fifteen-week, process-oriented residencies are intended to provide an environment where artists can experiment with their craft, develop their focus or test new ideas and simultaneously engage in vital public dialogue.

The BCA's Artist Residency Program puts special emphasis on artist projects that engage the public in direct and innovative ways, whether through collaborative activities, participatory public installations, performance, intervention or other imaginative activation. Whether your practice is studio-, street-, or performance-based, artists are invited to use this opportunity to explore art that has public interaction and participation as significant elements. Proposals that contemplate public art components are welcomed; potential space on the BCA campus for appropriate projects can be discussed, though projects need not result in a physical art object or objects.

Through a series of community programs jointly developed by the artist and the BCA, it allows artists to connect to the public and explore themes that inform their residency project. Important: please note there is no exhibition as part of this residency program.
International artists are invited to apply; however, all artists are responsible for their own visa, travel, living and housing expenses. With the BCA's commitment to local artists, at least one selected artist will be an individual based in Massachusetts.

ELIGIBILITY
A review panel will select two artists. Only artists who apply through this call will be considered for the program. Artists who have been awarded a BCA Artist Residency must wait three years before applying again.

PROGRAM BENEFITS
Financial Support: Artists receive a $1,500 honorarium, paid out as follows: $1,000 will be issued at the beginning of the residency, and $500 to be paid contingent upon the program's completion unless an alternate agreement is made between the artist and the BCA. In addition to the honorarium, artists will be reimbursed up to $1,000* for expenses incurred in the course of realizing the project. [*subject to change.]

Studio Space: Artists are provided with a private studio in the BCA Artist Studios Building, which houses a community of nearly 50 artists including painters, printmakers, sculptors, filmmakers, craftspeople, writers, performing artists and others.
