I. Fogo Island Arts Residency applications
Fogo Island Arts is seeking applications from artists working in a wide range of disciplines for residencies taking place between April 2016 and March 2017.

About Fogo Island Arts
Fogo Island Arts is a residency-based contemporary art venue that supports research and production of new work for artists, filmmakers, writers, musicians, curators, designers and thinkers from around the world. Since 2008, FIA has brought some of the most exciting emerging and renowned artists of today to take part in residencies and programs on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Canada.

FIA is part of the Shorefast Foundation, a Canadian registered charity dedicated to improving the socio-economic conditions on Fogo Island. Combining contemporary art, iconic architecture and social innovation in a singular setting, FIA is a world-class institution that is uniquely rooted in community.

FIA residencies
Fogo Island Arts residencies provide opportunities for artists from a wide range of disciplines to live and work on Fogo Island for periods ranging from one to three months. Artists-in-residence are provided with accommodation and studio space, as well as a weekly stipend to offset the costs of materials, shipping, and day-to-day living expenses. Most travel expenses are also covered. Artists-in-residence are asked to do one public presentation, performance, workshop, or similar event during their residency. Selected artists are invited to present their work in exhibitions at the Fogo Island Gallery.

FIA residencies are intended for professional artists with formal training or equivalent experience and recognition among their peers.

How to apply
The application form and program guidelines are available online at Fogo Island Arts.

II. The Hnatyshyn Foundation-Fogo Island Arts Young Curator Residency applications
The Hnatyshyn Foundation and Fogo Island Arts are seeking applications from young Canadian curators for a one-month residency to take place between May and October 2016.

About the residency
The Hnatyshyn Foundation-Fogo Island Arts Young Curator residency provides an opportunity for a Canadian curator between the ages of 25 and 30 to work in residence at Fogo Island Arts for one month.

The residency will cover the costs of travel to and from Fogo Island, accommodations in a traditional Newfoundland home and use of a vehicle for on-island transportation. The residency also includes a stipend to cover food costs and incidentals.

During the residency, the successful candidate will work closely with Fogo Island Arts staff and international artists-in-residence, and provide a presentation to the community. The candidate may also be given opportunities to contribute to exhibitions and publications curated by Fogo Island Arts.

The selections will be adjudicated by Nicolaus Schafhausen, Strategic Advisor to Fogo Island Arts and the Shorefast Foundation, and Director of Kunsthalle Wien, and Reesa Greenberg, art and exhibition historian.
