Job Posting: Costume Designer & Puppet Designer for Wild Art Group (Los Angeles)

Two design positions available for
Wild Art Group, a new experimental performance company. The performance is an Immersive Promenade Site Specific Music Concert. The artwork examines American’s new fear of extreme weather after Hurricane Sandy and the extreme drought of 2012. You must have an interest in sustainability.
Timeline: Now through show opening on February 5 2016

Puppet & Shadow Designer
The puppet designer will work closely with the set designer to use overhead projectors and slide projectors to create the world of the play. Settings include abstract forests, suburbia, and flood catastrophes. Puppet designer will also be in charge of the design for two or three light puppets, primarily birds, which will be lit from within.

Your duties will include:
Design & Construct puppets, and shadow puppet elements for performance
Shadow puppet elements will be created with overhead projectors and lights
All puppet and shadow elements need to be manipulated by actors.
Any puppets must be able to be packed into suitcases for an airplane in case we tour.
Puppets will comply with safety, budget, and sustainability goals.
Provide research and design drawings by the due dates agreed upon.
Help source projection elements in cooperation with set designer.
Be available for one design meeting once per week (some can be skype attendance)
Be available for Load in, tech, dress rehearsals, and preview during first week of February.

Compensation
$500 flat fee. 1/2 delivered on first design meeting, 1/2 delivered on preview.
Design meetings start in December, will happen on Sundays probably. We will always attempt to work with your schedule.

***There is also a possibility of the Puppet Designer also performing in the show as a puppeteer. Must be able to sing. If you have puppeteer and singing capabilities, please let me know. Additional fee for performer position available.

Costume Designer
The costume designer is responsible for designing and constructing four costumes total; two modern day farm wear, one demonic suburbanite cannibal, and one up for grabs. We are looking for someone who has the ability to create a lot with very little, has a huge imagination, and is not afraid of the dark.
