This is an open call for artists to participate in I am NOT tino sehgal, the first exhibition organised by Nahmad Projects, a newly established contemporary art space in Mayfair, London.

Conceived by Francesco Bonami, this project will pay homage to the artistic practice of the German artist Tino Sehgal. However, the artist is not involved in any aspect of the show. Through his constructed situations, Sehgal has dematerialised art, undermining the very assumptions of what art is. In a world dominated by an endless distribution of images and information, can art refuse this destiny, as Sehgal seems to suggest? Can art merely exist in the eye of the beholder, and in his memory? I am NOT tino sehgal addresses the possibility of the end of contemporary art and it opens up a discussion on what will be next. Further, it questions the roles, and the need, of artists in our society while posing interesting questions to the viewer and to the art world in general. We do not dispute or refute Sehgal's assumption, but we would also like to investigate how his premise can sustain originality and identity.

We would like you to participate in this project! We encourage you to send us a script of maximum 500 words describing a performance you would like to realise at the gallery. Your performance should be inspired by Tino Sehgal's practice, but it must be your own original work. The show will run for 30 days, starting on June 9. Bonami and Nahmad Projects will be selecting around 30 scripts. Each of the chosen performances will run individually and continuously for a full day. The performances will carry the same title I am NOT tino sehgal, plus your own name and a subtitle chosen by you.

We will be accepting scripts up to April 30. The chosen artists will each be awarded a refundable bursary of 1000 GBP to contribute to the expenses of the project. Please note that the bursary must be repaid if any of conditions below are not met.

A catalogue written by Francesco Bonami will be published including all scripts accepted for this project.

Please note that this project was not created by Tino Sehgal and that the artist is not involved in any aspect of it. Nahmad Projects will not accept any derogatory speech or denigratory acts towards Sehgal's reputation or any other person or legal entity.
