OPEN CALL FOR A CURATOR TO DEVELOP A PROJECT FOR THE PARTICIPATION OF CATALONIA AT THE 57TH VENICE BIENNALE 2017

The Institut Ramon Llull has set the 23rd June at 12:00 as the deadline to submit the first application (maximum length 2 pages).

The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), a public body created with the purpose of promoting Catalan language and culture abroad, is inviting tenders for a curator project to develop a proposal for the participation of Catalonia at the 57th International Art Exhibition, the Venice Biennale within the Eventi collaterali programme.

The project has a total budget of 185,000 euros for production of the exhibition (including tax). The proposal should meet the conceptual framework requirements as set out in the project brief and include original artwork.

The winning project will be selected by a jury chaired by Xavier Antich with panel members including Martí Manen, Chus Martínez, Martí Peran, Nekane Aramburu, Antoni Muntadas, Ferran Barenblit, and the Director of the Visual and Performing Arts Department at the Institut Ramon Llull without right to vote.

The project tender includes three phases:

The first, Participation phase, ends at 12:00 on 23rd June 2016. In this phase the candidate must present their CV and a report, approximately two pages in length, that explains the general outline of the proposal in line with the conceptual and budget framework.

The jury will select a maximum of three projects to go through to the second phase Ideas in which the initial proposal has to be developed.

The third phase corresponds to the commissioning and delivery of the winning project.

The participants in the Ideas phase will receive 1,000€ (including VAT and subject to income tax).

The winning project in the Ideas phase will receive a prize of 4,000€ (including VAT and subject to income tax).

The winner of the Ideas phase will be commissioned by the Institut Ramon Llull under the following conditions of payment:

- 2,420€ (including VAT and subject to income tax) during 2016, for the development of the project to be presented to the Biennale Foundation submitted within the Eventi Collateralo programme.

- 4,840 € (including VAT and subject to income tax) as payment for the development and leadership of the winning proposal during 2017 and up until the end of the Catalan participation in the Venice Art Biennale.
