The Industrial Design (bachelor’s) and Individual Study Plan in Design (master’s) programmes at Konstfack are based on an artistic foundation. The professor has overall responsibility for artistic and educational leadership, i.e. setting goals, organising, following up on and administering activities in partnership with the teachers and the head of the department. The professor primarily has day-to-day responsibility for the two-year master’s programme. The three-year bachelor’s programme is currently partly delegated to a senior lecturer. As an artistic leader, you are expected to act as a figurehead for students and faculty.

The professor participates in admissions and examinations, plans teaching, gives lectures and supports students’ development through individual discussions, reviews, critique and tutorials. The professor’s responsibilities also include teaching and supervision of foreign students and representing the subject, the programmes and Konstfack externally. On the master’s programme, teaching, supervision and examination is conducted in English.

As a professor, you, together with other faculty members, develop the main subject of design in relation to current and future challenges. This includes discussing how industrial design, service design, design for sustainable development and other design areas can approach new issues and challenges in a post-industrial social trend and how our students can be equipped for this. You are therefore committed to ensuring that the programme is in constant interaction with design research, various actors in society and a wider world. As design spans both material and immaterial practices, you have a clear vision of how sustainability, contextual and exploratory design processes and creation are integrated into the programme.

Your duties include:
–overall artistic and educational responsibility for the development of the main subject.
–organisational responsibility for the master’s programme, including planning and conducting teaching
–developing and leading courses, primarily as part of the master’s programme within the field of study
–being part of a team
–supervision at master’s level
–developing research

The position entails personal development work. The job also includes involvement in Konstfack’s collective work, for example in committees. The work will take place at Konstfack in agreement with professors and the head of the department.

The position
The position encompasses 70 per cent of a full-time post for no longer than five years, with the option of renewing for a maximum of another five years. Our goal is to be an equal workplace, with equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities for all employees. Duties to begin as soon as possible.

Eligibility
Those who are eligible for a position as professor within the field of fine art have:
–demonstrated both artistic and teaching expertise. The assessment of teaching skills shall be as exacting as the assessment of artistic expertise.
–specific expertise in the field that the position concerns.
–completed university teacher training or in some other way acquired equivalent skills. An applicant who in all other respects is considered qualified but who lacks the teacher training, must pass that course (7.5 higher education credits) and acquire the missing qualifications no later than two years after the start of their appointment.

Assessment criteria
The applicant is to have:
–an internationally recognised or equivalent current design practice,
–very good theoretical knowledge and practical skills within the field of design,
–very good knowledge of current trends in contemporary design as a whole,
–a pronounced commitment to and/or experience of practice-based research in the field of design,
–experience of teaching and supervising at second-cycle level at university,
–the ability to conduct a problematising and reflective dialogue regarding sustainable development,
–the ability to conduct a problematising and reflective dialogue on the basis of norm-critical perspectives,
–the ability to develop the subject and conduct educational development work alongside fellow professors and teachers,
–an international network in the field, relevant to teaching and research,
–documented organisational and administrative skills and a good ability to cooperate

Konstfack is Sweden’s largest university college of art and design, with approximately 900 students and 200 employees. We offer study programmes at bachelor’s and master’s level in fine art, crafts, design and teacher training. What is shared by all our study programmes is that they are based on an artistic foundation. The majority of our teachers are part-time employees and also undertake their own artistic practice alongside their teaching.
