The Department of Fine Arts and Art History at the American University of Beirut invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Studio Arts Program, at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 15, 2018.

The candidate should be an artist who has demonstrated excellence in contemporary expanded practices such as sound art, trans-disciplinary media, data excavation and installation art. They will have an established record as an active artist, evidenced by engagement in workshops, lectures, exhibitions and similar activities.

The artist will be joining a developing Studio Arts program composed of artists who address topics such as optics, pixel, image, text and critical visually, with a practice-based approach. The candidate will contribute to the department with complementary and new research interests, and develop courses related to their area of expertise to enhance the existing Studio Arts BA program. The program is a sequential curricular structure organized to provide undergraduate art students with a strong foundation in studio skills and theory. We encourage a recalling of art from within current concerns and that develops in students an ability to employ a wide array of knowledge and skills, with a readiness to open up towards post-studio art practices.

Two to three years teaching experience at the university level and some administrative experience is preferred. An MFA or equivalent is a requirement.

The Department of Fine Arts and Art History offers major, minor and MA degrees in Art History, BA and minor degrees in Studio Arts and minor degrees in Theatre and Music. The language of instruction is English.

The successful candidate will:
–Teach a 2:3 load with office hours
–Develop foundation courses in Studio Arts for the BA
–Develop advanced courses in the Studio Arts for the BA
–Assist in program, departmental and university administration
–Continue active participation in their field (exhibitions, artist residencies, scholarly research, publications, exhibition catalogues, etc.)
–Other related and associated duties
