Process
In a program scheduled to run for three years Kunstraum Lakeside looks at the fields of endeavor that can be subsumed under the term “artistic research.” Thematic links with the activities in Lakeside Science & Technology Park will carry forward the sociopolitical dimension this exhibition venue has cultivated to date. Kunstraum Lakeside devotes itself each year to a specific theme derived from the special features of this exhibition space and its emphasis on discourse. After investigations into the term “research” in 2018, the second program year will be dedicated to the idea of “process.” With a thematic focus on phases, evolutions and progressions, courses of events, unfoldings and procedures, the program sets out to examine developmental processes in artistic creation.

Program 2019
In 2019, Kunstraum Lakeside will present solo exhibitions by Kathi Hofer, Ricarda Denzer, and Ignacio Uriarte, as well as a group exhibition organized in collaboration with the center for art research and production Hangar in Barcelona. Kathi Hofer (b. 1981 in Austria, lives and works in Berlin) draws in her work on found material, carefully reworking it and then re-integrating it into the productive cycle from which it originated. Resembling a kind of recycling, her exploration interrogates processes of cultural and artistic production and the creative act. The montage of spoken language for the audio-visual works of Ricarda Denzer (b. 1967 in Germany, lives and works in Vienna) has led to a preoccupation with the phenomenon of the voice itself. Her multi-layered narratives in various artistic media are the result of thinking in acoustic terms which spawns unusual connections beyond established formats. Ignacio Uriarte (b. 1972 in Germany, lives and works in Berlin) produces his art using analogue means but follows the binary machine logic determined by the figures zero and one, a logic that inevitably shapes everyday studio work in the 21st century. At the same time, Uriarte also experiments with the sequences of actions that are linked to the tools of his creative practice.

Open call for “Statements”
In addition to the scheduled solo and group exhibitions, Kunstraum Lakeside invites artists, cultural practitioners, and researchers to participate in the 2019 program by submitting their own “Statement.” These performative pieces will take the form of one-day events relating to the annual topic as well as experimenting with modes of representation in the visual arts in the context of an institution at the interface between art, economy, and technology. The goal for the contributions is to open up Kunstraum Lakeside more than ever before to participation by local and international artists. A total of four “Statements” will be presented in 2019. Kunstraum Lakeside
Kunstraum Lakeside is a place for the production and presentation of international contemporary art with the aim of provoking critical discussion about aspects of the economy relevant to society. Based at the Lakeside Science & Technology Park close to the University of Klagenfurt, the art space operates at the interface between economic, scientific, and cultural research, artistic practices, and multifaceted forms of discourse. The permanent installation of the art space has reinforced the public nature of the art program and extended and enriched the region’s art institutes with a unique location that promotes critical discussion at an international level. The aim of Kunstraum Lakeside is to convey and confront divergent perspectives on shared social relations.
