The MacDowell Colony is a leading contemporary arts organization. Since 1907, our mission has been to create a space where inspiration happens on a daily basis. We do that by providing essential support for emerging and established artists by bringing together diverse, multidisciplinary talent to exchange ideas and pursue creative work. Artists accepted for residency receive fellowships that cover all residency costs, including use of a private studio, meals and accommodations for up to eight weeks in an ideal creative setting in rural Peterborough, New Hampshire.

A MacDowell Fellowship consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for two weeks to two months. We believe that all talented artists should have the opportunity a MacDowell residency provides, and there is no cost for a MacDowell Fellowship. Additionally, MacDowell offers financial assistance programs to those who have been awarded a Fellowship. These financial assistance programs are intended to help with or cover the costs of traveling to and from MacDowell, as well as expenses which artists expect to incur while in residence, including rent and lost income.
