"SEEKING MURALIST to design, order materials, prepare, and lead a group of 30-40 inexperienced volunteers in painting a large wall mural on January 20th, 2020. Pay and staff support in advance and day-of included.

Local nonprofit Repair the World Harlem has received funding to utilize volunteer support to beautify a number of community spaces in Harlem, including a mural in the dance studio of the Police Athletic League student after school space (441 Manhattan ave) on MLK day, January 20th.

The Police Athletic League has a long-standing relationship with the NYC community, specifically in Harlem, and they take an interesting strategic approach to facilitate relationships between students of color and law enforcement. It’s, of course, a complicated and nuanced program, and I’m looking forward to diving into the implications - both positive and negative- of this program with whomever ends up supporting us with this project.
