UMBC Fellows Program for Faculty Diversity in the Arts

The University of Maryland Baltimore County invites applications for the inaugural cohort of the UMBC Fellows Program for Faculty Diversity in the Arts.

UMBC is dedicated to ensuring a diverse, inclusive, scholarly environment that encourages outstanding individuals to enter the academic profession. The purpose of the Program is to support promising creative practitioners and scholars who are committed to diversity and inclusive excellence in the academy and to prepare them for possible tenure-track appointments at UMBC. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who are members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the professoriate.

UMBC will appoint Fellows for a two-year term in-residence fellowship beginning July 1, 2021. Fellows receive a starting stipend of $50,000 per year, health benefits, and $5,500 for professional travel, preparation of creative or scholarly work, and technology needs. Fellows are also provided with office space and library and other privileges at the University. During the two-year fellowship, fellows are provided teaching and research mentors and specialized professional development opportunities. In addition to pursuing their research and/or creative practice fellows teach one course a year in the host department (Dance, Music, Theatre, or Visual Arts).

Successful candidates for the Program will be selected on the basis of artistic and/or scholarly promise or accomplishment and potential to add to the diversity of the UMBC community. Applicants must have completed their terminal degree (MFA, DFA, PhD or other appropriate terminal degree) when the term of appointment commences. Individuals awarded a terminal degree from UMBC or currently holding a postdoctoral or faculty position (including adjunct positions) at UMBC are not eligible.

Fields
Applications for artistic and/or scholarly work in any arts field represented at UMBC are welcome. Applicants may specify up to two fields of interest (Dance, Music, Theatre, or Visual Arts) if they wish to be considered by more than one department.

Stipend
$50,000 per year.

Eligibility
Applicants who hold a terminal degree (received no later than July 2021) are eligible to apply.
