From November 29 to December 19, 2021, the Charlottenborg Foundation is accepting submissions for the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 2022 for the 165th time.

This year, the jury spans over both collective and individual practices, and practitioners with a significant international career as well as a proximity to art schools.

Open call
From November 29 to December 19, 2021, artists—regardless of background, education and nationality—can submit works to the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 2022. The Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition is one of the most important open submission exhibitions in Northern Europe, and has been held annually at Charlottenborg in Copenhagen since 1857. Today, the exhibition showcases international visual art, architecture and design

The jury 2022
In 2022, the jury will consist of artist duo Hesselholdt & Mejlvang, artist Ursula Reuter Christiansen, architect Peter Bertram, textile artist Grethe Wittrock and artist Sophie Suaning. This year's jury was invited based on creating a diverse jury spanning solid national and international experience, as well as a proximity to art schools with 2021 graduate from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Sophie Suaning. After the last and physical round of censorship, artist duo Hesselholdt & Mejlvang will curate the exhibition.

The solo award in collaboration with Politikens Forhal
The Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition’s solo award recognises overall artistic quality and relevance, and is granted on the opening night of the exhibition in collaboration with Politikens Forhal. The Solo Award is accompanied by an invitation to produce a solo exhibition at Politikens Forhal in 2023 and 15.000 DKK for the realisation of the show.

Deep Forest Art Land Award
The winner of the Deep Forest Art Land Award will have the opportunity to create a solo presentation at Skovsnogen, Kibæk, Denmark. The new collaboration aims to further strengthen Deep Forest Art Land and the Charlottenborg Foundation as a platform and resource for emerging artist, reaching new audiences both geographically and institutionally. The work will be revealed in the fall 2022.

Talent Award
The Talent Award recognises an artist, who demonstrates an experimenting artistic approach and possesses an interesting potential for developing their artistic practise according to the jury. The winner of the Talent Award is honoured with 10,000 DKK

The spring exhibition
Over the years, the Spring Exhibition has been the first significant step for many young artists on the path to a professional career, while the exhibition has often also presented new works from more established artists. Throughout Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition's long history, artists who are today internationally recognized, debuted or presented works at the exhibition, including Per Kirkeby, Alvar Alto, Jørn Utzon, Olafur Eliasson, Jasmina Cibic, Jeppe Hein, benandsebastian, Anne Haaning and many more.

Location
The Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition is held every year at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, one of the largest spaces for contemporary art in Northern Europe. The Dutch inspired baroque palace housing the exhibition halls is an addition to the historical Charlottenborg Palace, also housing The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1883, contemporary art has been presented in the unique exhibition building. The Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 2021 will be open from February 6–March 13, 2022.

Charlottenborg Foundation
The exhibition is organised by the Charlottenborg Foundation and its board, consisting of visual artist John Kørner, architect Peter Møller Rasmussen, photographer Søren Rønholt, jewellery artist Annette Dam, visual artist Christina Augustesen and visual artist Ann Sophie von Bülow.
