Bozar, a major international centre for the arts located in the heart of Brussels, is seeking to appoint a Director Exhibitions.

Bozar, from its inception was a place of ‘art vivant’—a catalyst for change and progress, a centre which pushed the boundaries of contemporary art, challenging perceptions and views of what the arts could be. This is as true today as it was 100 years ago when the doors of Bozar first opened to the public. Bozar presents a constantly changing, distinctive and ambitious programme of exhibitions, music, film, performance, architecture, talks and events.

Its mission today is to further develop its reputation and deliver an exciting local, national and international identity, embracing today and looking to the future, ensuring Bozar remain an inclusive, hospitable and cultural oasis for an ever more broadening and diverse audience and a place where the arts can radiate from Bozar throughout the city and beyond.

Reporting to the CEO/Artistic Director, the new Director Exhibitions will be a key figure in the development of the artistic mission for Bozar. The ideal candidate will be a strong artistic accomplice for the CEO/Artistic Director and will bring surprising and radical ideas. This Director Exhibitions will be unafraid to step out of the conventional path, aiming to appeal both to existing and to new audiences. They will have a track record of producing high quality, innovative exhibition programmes, which capture attention both at home and abroad. They will be digitally savvy and cognisant of societal issues such as environment, gender, race and equality.

As a multi-arts centre, Bozar seeks a new Director who has a genuine interest in many genres and will be keen to work with the heads of the other disciplines and think creatively, bringing contemporary content and vision and focused on the excitement this could generate. New perspectives will be at the heart of programming, which is able to navigate between contemporary arts and historical retrospectives.

The Director Exhibitions will be very well networked internationally and will be comfortable talking to sponsors, foundations and the media. A great team leader, supporting their staff in the delivery of high quality work.

Candidates will need to have sufficient language facility in English, along with French or Dutch or be willing to follow an immersion course to meet the language requirement.

Bozar welcomes applications from candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds without distinction of gender, religion, skin colour, nationality, sexual orientation or disability, aiming to reflect the diversity of Brussels in both its staff and its visitors.
