The Galerie Rudolfinum is one of Europe’s most renowned exhibition venues for international contemporary art and enjoys an excellent reputation both at home and abroad.

From its foundation in 1994, the Galerie Rudolfinum has been a catalyst for change and progress, and a centre that pushes the boundaries of contemporary art, challenging perceptions and views of what the arts can be. Without a collection, the Galerie Rudolfinum presents a constantly changing, distinctive, and ambitious programme of exhibitions, music, film, performance, talks, and events.

The gallery’s mission now is to extend its reputation even further, by continuing to develop an exciting local, national, and international identity. By embracing today and looking to the future, the Galerie Rudolfinum aims to remain an inclusive, hospitable, and culturally engaged oasis for an ever broader and more diverse audience.

Reporting to the General Director of the Czech Philharmonic, the new Director of the Galerie Rudolfinum will be a key figure in the development of the visual artistic mission. The gallery director will bring an extensive international network and existing reputation for high professional standards and achievement in the visual arts sector, and will be comfortable talking to sponsors, foundations, and the media. An empowering team leader, the director will support the gallery staff in the delivery of high-quality work.

The annual budget of the Galerie Rudolfinum amounts to approximately 600 thousand EUR, of which approximately half covers direct costs of exhibitions and the other half covers operating costs. The team of the gallery consists of 8 employees. The monthly salary of the director is between 65 and 75 thousand CZK (2,750—3,250 EUR).

Responsibilities and duties
–Conception of a visionary identity for the Galerie Rudolfinum as an international centre for the presentation of contemporary art.
–Development of a broad artistic programme (exhibitions, performances, lectures, and other cross-disciplinary activities) in close collaboration with curators.
–Management of the implementation of all exhibitions and supporting programmes.
–Cooperation with regional, national, and international partners; international networking.
–Budgetary responsibility for the gallery management and administration.
–Participation in financial, personnel planning, and organizational tasks in the gallery.
–Thematic and scholarly processing of funding applications and sponsor acquisition.

Qualifications and skills
–Successful completion of a university degree, preferably in art history, art theory/criticism.
–Extensive, specialised knowledge in the field of international contemporary art.
–Long-standing curatorial experience, preferably in contemporary art institutions (national/international).
–In-depth knowledge of international standards and best practice for contemporary art institutions.
–Very strong network within the national and international art scene.
–High level of leadership, organisational and communication skills, and strong professional commitment.
–High communicative and integrative competence, as well as experience in dealing with the public and the media.
–Experience of writing and editing texts and publications.
–Experience in fundraising.
–Proficiency in English; other languages an advantage.

(c) Strategic objectives: Strategy of professional activities; financial strategy; HR strategy
(d) Marketing strategy.
