In 2009/2010, McColl Center for Visual Art will celebrate its 10th anniversary. To mark this important milestone, the Center is committing a full year of in-depth programming to address issues of social justice. It is the Center’s intent to host exhibitions, have artists-in-residence whose work deals with issues of social justice, and develop programming around the exhibitions and artists that encourages collaboration and dialog. A formal name for the project has not been selected, for now Impact Project is being used as a placeholder. A planning group of Charlotte' s most committed and active citizens has been convened and we are collaboratively working to conceptualize the full depth and breadth of this project, and how it could be important to Charlotte and beyond.

McColl Center for Visual Art's yearlong celebration will be multi-layered with themed Artists-in-Residence, where artists may explore the issues through their own voice and medium, and exhibitions addressing the central themes for the year. The Center is seeking artists to be in residence whose work addresses social justice issueswith a special emphasis on areas relating to labor, race, religion, age, class, technology, immigration, environment, and education.

I am contacting past applicants to ask if will forward this email to artists that you know who might be interested in this project and or post a link to the Center’s website.

The deadline is June 6, 2008 and the selection panel will meet this summer to select artists for fall 2009 (Sept-November) and winter 2010 (Jan-March).

For more information and application guidelines, please visit the center’s website www.mccollcenter.org. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best,
