Founded in 1981, Women In Photography International (WIPI) is the most
recognized organization for women photographers worldwide. WIPI completes
the year by announcing "The 2008 Competition" - a juried call for entries of
traditional and non-traditional images.

The "2008 Competition" will be juried by an accomplished panel of
professionals and the top 10 images as well as 25 honorable mention images
will be showcased on http://www.womeninphotography.org. Following the Home
Page visibility until Spring 2009, the exhibition will be easily accessible
in the WIPI archive.

For the 2008 competition, WIPI welcomes all images including mixed media,
color, B/W, alternative or any digital photo image, manipulated, scanned
film or scanned prints and submitted as a JPEG file, will be accepted.
There is no date restriction. From the greatest joy to the deepest sadness,
from the young and fragile to abstract inventions -- show WIPI your best
work!

The 2008 year end call for entries follows the successful 25th Anniversary
print collection and Kodak sponsored book. Starting in 2006 Women In
Photography International began the process of researching and culling the
names of working women photographers worldwide. After two years, the
finalized list of the Top 100 female Photographers was completed August 31,
2008, and serves as the 25th Anniversary Addendum to WIPI's Distinguished
Photographer's Award,
http://womeninphotography.org/Events-Exhibits/DistinguishedPhotog/wipi-1... first presented to Eve Arnold in 1981. Since then, the
Award has been presented to outstanding photographers including Annie
Leibovitz, Linda McCartney, Grace Robertson, Joyce Tenneson, Ruth Bernhard
and Carrie Mae Weems.

Selecting the top 100 women photographers including Lillian Bassman, Jodi
Cobb, Anne Geddes, Graciela Iturbide, Helen Levitt, Sally Mann and Cindy
Sherman, involved Googling each of the candidates nominated with attention
focused on the artist¹s body of work, history of exhibition, biographies,
portfolios, career longevity, publications, and social impact. The selection
acknowledges women starting at the earliest stages of their career to
working photographers with twenty-five or more years of history.

** Women In Photography International is a 501.(c).3. Organization. The
online resource center is comprised of the WIPI history beginning 1981, the
Peter E. Palmquist Women In Photography International bibliography of over
23,000 women photographers, an archive of exhibitions, member links, the
f2-eZine that includes feature stories, member lecture listings, book
reviews, world resources and the newly created Member Network Board for
member posting and public viewing.
