BAC, Baltic Art Center in Visby, Sweden; The Factory of Art and Design (FFKD) in Copenhagen, Denmark and Hordaland Art Centre in Bergen, Norway jointly invite professionals within the field of visual art to apply to our new Collaborative Research Residency.

The Collaborative Research Residency offers one month residencies autumn 2010 for research groups of three collaborators where at least one has a contemporary visual arts background (artist/curator/art critic). The programme encourages new relationships and should be seen as a chance to try out different types of collaborations, which may have an inter-disciplinary character. We welcome applications from research groups based in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

4th Cairo Video Festival : Call for Submissions (deadline June 15)

Medrar for Contemporary Art calls for submissions for its 4th International Video Festival, which will be hosted by the Goethe-Institut in downtown Cairo.

Initiated by the Cairo-based artists' initiative Medrar for Contemporary Art in 2005, this festival continues its focus on providing a platform for sharing and discussing newly produced high concept / low budget experimental videos.

Based on a call for works by emerging artists, the festival program takes on the format of a concise series of video screenings, accompanied by talks and discussions with video-makers and curators to tackle some of the key issues presented in the works.

Funds available for Arab filmmaking projects (deadline August 31)

Independent filmmakers in the Arab world are invited to apply for project funding grants that aim to stimulate and support artistic creativity and freedom of cultural expression in the Arab World. Deadline to apply is August 31.

The funding is offered by the Arab Fund for Arts & Culture initiative (AFAC), a nonprofit organization providing direct financial assistance to independent artists and cultural institutions across the Arab region.

AFAC also invites individuals, NGOs, cultural and educational organizations, governmental bodies and private companies working in culture and arts in the Arab World to send in project proposals in the fields of Independent Filmmaking, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Literature, Research, Workshops and capacity building.

V Inter-American Biennial of Video Art :Call for submissions (deadline July 31)

The Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank announces the call for the V Inter-American Biennial of Video Art to be held in December 2010 at the IDB Cultural Center Art Gallery in Washington, D.C.

The objectives of the Biennial are to: 1) stimulate the creative use of video, and encourage the Latin American and Caribbean artists to use their abilities to formulate original and imaginative proposals with the help of video technology; and 2) broaden the discussion of factors that affect the social, cultural and economic environments of Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Asia Pacific film competition calls for entries (deadline August 23)

The Fourth Annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards will return to Australia's Gold Coast on December 2. Submissions must be from the Asia Pacific region and be submitted by August 23.

Eligible films must have a credible screening prior to being accepted by APSA.

Residency in Lima, Peru

Located in the historical center of Lima, Perú, Escuelab offers a residency program to young artists, creators and activists from Latin America, in particular from the Andean region, Central America and the Caribbean. The program hosts annually up to 10 participants as scholarship holders for a period of 11 months, offering an interdisciplinary formation with the possibility of developing an own project.

Female writers invited to submit essays on 'holding hands' (deadline June 4)

Women around the world are invited to submit non-fiction essays on the topic of "holding hands," for publication in the upcoming issue of World Pulse, a magazine that tells of global issues through the eys of women. Works will also be published online, and the top three stories will receive US$100. Deadline: June 4.

World Pulse invites writers to tell a story about "holding hands," which might explore themes of mentorship, connection, taboo, solidarity, violence, relationships, sensuality, family, love, friendship, healing, bridging difference, or anything in between. Contest seeks photos that display change worldwide (deadline June 28)

Submissions are now being accepted for the CL!CK About It worldwide photo competition, which aims to create a mosaic of images from all corners of the globe to showcase how local communities are developing. Deadline: June 28.

The contest aims to display signs of economic, social, cultural or climactic shifts in neighborhoods around the world.

The top winner will receive a Canon Digital Rebel camera, and second and third place winners will receive FLIP Mino HD cameras. The contest is sponsored by the European Journalism Center.
