Call for Submissions: 2010 Asian & Pacific Islander American Heritage Month Calendar

The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs is a proud supporter of Los Angeles' 2010 Asian & Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. This celebration will promote and encourage an awareness of the significant contributions made by our City's Asian & Pacific Islander Americans in culture, education, politics, business, technology, and the arts.

Rogue Artists Ensemble seeks submissions of original music and art for upcoming project

Rogue Artists Ensemble, a collective
of multi-disciplinary artists who create Hyper-theater, an innovative
hybrid of theater, puppetry, masks, dance, music and modern technology,
seeks contributions of original music and art to be incorporated into a
new performance event titled HYPERBOLE: origins, scheduled to premiere
in Los Angeles in September, 2010. Music and media will a featured
element of the show and will be heard and seen by thousands throughout
Southern California.

HYPERBOLE: origins is an original, adventurous celebration of myth,
music, movement, and mania, all inspired by stories of creation.
Resembling a collection of music videos performed live onstage,
HYPERBOLE: origins will play out as a torrent of short scenes set to and

Call for Entries - Armenian Allied Arts Association - Deadline March

The Armenian Allied Arts Association (AAAA) - dedicated to promoting
talent of Armenian descent is holding it's 70th annual arts competition.
Monetary prizes vary from $50 to $500.
The categories are:
Art (oil, water color, ceramics, photography etc..)
Dance (solo or group)
Drama/Film
Literature (poetry, short story, essay)
Music composition
Instrumental (piano, violin, guitar etc..)
Voice

Over the years, AAAA has given many artists and performers their first
"break" such as:
Violinist George Pehlivanian
Pianist Sarkis Baltaian
Sopranos Kallen Esperian and Isabel Bayrakdarian
and many more.

The AAAA is very proud to have awarded more than
$ 250,000 over the course of its 75 year history.

Unity is our strength

The FMLN of El Salvador and the CCCP (Cultural Committee of
the Communist Party USA) are cosponsoring a May Day
celebration on Saturday, May 1 from 4-10 pm at

the L.A. Workers Center
1251 S St Andrews Place
Los Angeles 90019

Part of the Festival is an art show including work suggested by
the theme of May Day--working people, the struggle for peace
and a better life, international solidarity, etc.

If you have work for show or for sale please contact Chris at

The deadline is April 25. Work may be brought to the Center on
April 25 between 3-6 pm. Work may be contributed for display

ARTISTS CALL; Eco-LA seeks recovered element/found object art

You may now know of the Eco-LogicalART Gallery in the mid-city area. Our
nonprofit gallery is becoming a hub of recycled/recovered element art.
Specifically for 4 years we've been taking "dead" landfill
destined advertising vinyl, stretching it into canvasses and offering it
to artists free in exchange for exposure on the gallery exterior. To
date now with gallery shows we've sold over 45k of original art
painted on recycled vinyl.

Starting in 2007 Eco-LA secured actual billboards for the display of
original art painted on recycled billboard vinyl. To date our
"drive-by" art events, in Los Angeles and SF have been seen over

We are seeking five artists for the Metro Orange Line Extension.

The Metro Orange Line Extension dedicated busway will extend four miles north from Canoga Station to the Chatsworth Metrolink Station, and will include a new bikeway and pedestrian path, landscaping, additional parking areas and public art.

The International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) is now accepting
proposals for workshops. These workshop events focus on the
development of knowledge through demonstrations, hands-on learning,
and tutorials with a special emphasis on physical computing and
building things. The topics of these events can range from
demonstration of software techniques, physical modeling, design of
hardware, specialist techniques, circuit bending, hardware hacking,
software programming, physical computing, real-time sound
synthesis/analysis, DSP, development of new musical instruments.
