Organized by Fiera Milano and directed by Nicola Ricciardi, miart—the international fair of modern and contemporary art presenting the widest chronological range of artworks in Italy—will take place from April 17 to 19, 2026 (VIP preview on Thursday, April 16). Celebrating its 30th edition, the fair will both honor its history and open itself to new horizons. Direct link to the application can be found here.
True to its cross-disciplinary spirit and its inclusive embrace of all artistic forms, miart seizes the centenary of American jazz legends John Coltrane and Miles Davis as an opportunity to echo one of jazz’s most vital qualities: the ability to reinvent the familiar and transform established standards into fertile ground for innovation.
With the title New Directions—a nod to Coltrane’s seminal 1963 album and a genuine declaration of intent—miart 2026 embraces a metamorphosis that touches every layer of its identity: from its curatorial approach to its dialogue with galleries, from its visual identity to the very way visitors experience the fair.
Symbolically marking this new evolutionary phase, miart will relocate to the South Wing of Allianz MiCo: an international renowned architectural space adjacent to the fair’s historic pavilion and overlooking the contemporary park of CityLife — an urban landscape that stands as a metaphor for openness and vision: expanding, welcoming, listening.
Across the fairground, spread over three levels, the two historic sections return: Emergent—dedicated to the younger generation of gallerists and once again curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini—and Established, which this year is enriched by a new selection of exhibition projects titled Established Anthology. This special initiative celebrates the thirtieth edition of the fair by narrating the complexity, trajectories, and transformations of time—time as lived experience, as an archive of signs, as a horizon to be imagined.
Alongside them, a new section completes the offering: Interplay, a limited number of exhibition spaces shared by pairs of galleries. These are not simple juxtapositions but cohesive narratives capable of conveying a shared vision—an authentic dialogue between artists, languages, and cultural contexts.
As in jazz—where dialogue among instruments is essential and each voice adds its tone to a shared harmony—miart will foster moments of exchange with the city’s cultural institutions even in the lead-up to the fair, continuing the spirit of Talks Among Friends, first introduced in the previous edition.
New Directions is an open invitation: to be moved by evolving languages, to be challenged by past and present artists, to be inspired by galleries that take risks in extraordinary times. But more importantly, it is an invitation to listen—as one does with jazz: with reverence, curiosity, and a deep longing to understand.
Please visit miart’s website here for an overview of the 2026 edition, including further information about the sections, the Selection Committee, the curatorial team, and the application process. All the applications to miart 2026 must be submitted online by Friday, November 7, 2025.
