Over the seventeen years of its existence, the Kim Contemporary Art Center has maintained a constant interest in observing and supporting new artistic phenomena, integrating them into the institution's program in the form of conversations and co-creation. In preparation for next year's exhibition program, we are announcing the annual Kim Open Call — an opportunity for young artists, curators and creative associations based in or coming from Latvia to implement an exhibition at the Kim Contemporary Art Center in early 2027 (tentative dates: 23.01-01.03.2027).

The application must include (all information - in Latvian):

– a description of the creative concept of the exhibition (max. 1 A4) with specified participants and additional sketches in Word or PDF format

– a portfolio of the project applicant's and participants' creative practice with images of previous work or exhibitions (including a CV and a short biography)

– budget outline or comments

Kim provides:

– curatorial and project management support during the development and running of the exhibition

– raising funding for the implementation of the idea (up to 3,000 EUR)

– well-equipped exhibition space (60–100 m2)

– an effective press and communication strategy on a local and international scale

Applications should be sent to kim@kim.lv by August 5, indicating the subject Kim Open Call 2026. We encourage project authors to be prepared to take the initiative to attract the necessary additional co-financing for the successful implementation of their idea. The winner will be announced in early August of this year.

The competition initiative was launched in 2016 with the aim of discovering promising and talented artists and curators in a timely manner, providing the best conditions for the implementation of their creative ideas. Previous laureates: Paula Punkstiņa, Anna Malicka, Annemarija Gulbe, Ieva Jakuša and Gundega Strauberga, Karlīna Mežecka, Sabīne Šnē, Jānis Krauklis, Toms Harjo and Jānis Dzirnieks, as well as curators Anna Laganovska, Žanete Liekīte and Laura Brokāne.
