Global Oceans photo contest open

National Geographic and La Mer have teamed up for a global photo contest on oceans with a grand prize worth US$27,000.

Acceptable submissions are any ocean-related images, including but not limited to shorelines, close-ups of waves, marine sea life, sea kelp, coral, people enjoying the ocean, sailing at sea, long-boarding, surfing, fishing.

The contest does not accept submissions of freshwater scenes or themes such as lakes, waterfalls, rivers, ponds, etc. All entries must be salt water (oceans) related. Participants must be over the age of 21. The contest is not open to residents in Cuba, Iran, China, North Korea, Syria, Sudan and the Province of Quebec.

Photography contest on water conservation open

Photographers interested in water conservation issues can enter a contest.

Australia's savewater! awards are calling for amateur and professional photographers worldwide to share their photos about the importance of water and conserving it for the future.

Three awards will be presented; junior student (up to 12 years old), senior student (13 to 17 years old) and open.

Prizes include digital cameras and iPods, with selected images to be used in international water conservation campaigns.

video contest - up to age 25

Young people up to age 25 can participate in a video contest.

NPR's "My Big Idea to Change the World" contest is designed to give people ages 13 to 25 the chance to explain their original ideas powered by science, technology or math. Legal residents of the U.S. are eligible to participate.

Entrants will explain their idea in a video. The top 10 finalists will have their videos featured NPR's website, www.npr.org, and on NPR's Facebook page, "Joe's Big Idea."The first place winner will get personalized advice or commentary from a leader in their field of innovation, facilitated by NPR senior correspondent Joe Palca, on how to make their idea become a reality.

Urban Photographer of the Year contest open

Photojournalists and amateur photographers worldwide can participate in this contest.

CBRE is accepting submissions for its 2012 Urban Photographer of the Year Competition, "Cities at Work."

The Urban Photographer of the Year will be the person who, in the eyes of the judges, has best captured the life of a town or city at a given time of day.

While the photograph does not necessarily have to be taken at that specific time of day, it does need to look as though it was. For example, a photograph could capture London at 4 a.m., Lisbon at 2 p.m. or Dubai at 9 p.m. Participants can enter a photograph for each hour of the day, allowing a maximum of 24 submissions.

The first-place winner will receive a photo safari vacation that includes seven nights' accommodation.
