Vila 31 x Art Explora announces the open call for its 2027 residency programme in Tirana, Albania.

Following a remarkable inaugural year in 2025, Vila 31 x Art Explora has rapidly established itself as a vital platform for contemporary creation in the Balkans. In its first full year, the residency hosted 29 artists from 15 nationalities and presented over 100 public events: exhibitions, workshops, screenings, performances, and discussions—welcoming more than 30,000 visitors.

Deadline for the 2026 Open Call for The Democracy Cycle is April 28, 5pm ET ! What new performance project addressing democracy might you propose?

Now in its third and final open call, The Democracy Cycle continues to commission new live performing arts works in theater, dance, music, opera, and multidisciplinary practices that explore themes relating to the nature, practice, and experience of democracy.

Each selected artist receives $60,000 in support, which consists of a $30,000 commission and another $30,000 for the creation and development of a new, live performance project.
