proposals from artists, teams of artists, and curators which addresses
a common theme; the status of our creative economy.

Selected proposals will be offered:
Three month residency at 18th Street Arts Center
Fee ranging from $2500-5000 to complete the proposed project
Will be presented during our quarterly Art Nights, as either an
exhibition, or a public project

Son of Semele Ensemble is looking for companies and artists interested in
performing at their venue on either Wed/Thurs nights or on Sundays through
the month of May.
*There is no rental fee, however all box office revenue will be split 50/50.
* Productions/Performances that emphasize departures from conventional
form, content and/or style will be given priority. The performances will be
done on the existing lighting plot and set for Son of Semele's next
production, "THE DESIGNATED MOURNER" by Wallace Shawn. This is an
excellent opportunity for someone to put up a production in partnership with
Son of Semele.

Sacred Memories: Cross-Cultural Celebrations
of Day of the Dead
From October 19 to November 27, 2009, El Pueblo Historical Monument will present Sacred Memories: Cross-Cultural Celebrations of Day of the Dead. Sacred Memories follows El Pueblo's acclaimed 2007 exhibition which explored celebrations that venerate the departed including Dia de los Muertos, first observed by the indigenous people of Latin America, China's Qingming, and other rituals practiced in United States, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. Artists are asked to submit for consideration two and three-dimensional work (including ofrendas/altars) that examines rituals honoring the deceased and/or pays tribute to departed ancestors.

Call for applications for the Balmoral Scholarships and the Foreign and Exchange Scholarships for 2010
Application period for 2010 scholarships:
May 15 to July 18, 2009 (date of postmark)
I. International Residence Scholarships at the Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral
Six residence scholarships will be awarded to international visual artists.
The scholarship lasts 6 months. All of them begin in April 2010 and are endowed with 1,200 euros a month and include free accommodation at the Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral.
II. National Project Scholarship
Director of Civic Art Program, Los Angeles County Arts Commission
The Los Angeles County Arts Commission is seeking a visionary Director of its Civic Art Program. This program, which allocates 1% of county capital projects for public art, began in 2005. This position has overall responsibility for planning, developing, and implementing what is becoming one of the largest public art programs in the country, with close to 50 projects currently in various stages of development.
The Director of Civic Art oversees a team of project managers and a program coordinator. The position reports to the Executive Director of the Arts Commission.

Stefan Kalmár, who for the past four years has successfully run Kunstverein München, has been appointed director of 'artists space' New York City. As a result of this, the director's post at Kunstverein München has now become vacant.
Kunstverein München is highly regarded nationally and internationally, as a key institution for innovative contemporary art and critical curatorial concepts and discourse.
Over the past 20 years, its previous directors Zdenek Felix, Helmut Draxler, Dirk Snauwaert, Maria Lind and Stefan Kalmár, have challenged curatorial and contemporary art conventions producing innovative exhibitions.
