The University of Zurich launches an Executive Master on the Art Market

A postgraduate program on the art market is now proposed at the University of Zurich. It will be part of its continuing education offering. The courses, which will start in September 2011, will lead in two years to an Executive Master in Art Market Studies and in a minimum of one year to a diploma or certificate of advanced studies. The different modules are interdisciplinary and will among others treat art connoisseurship, art law, marketing and management. The application process will close in May.

This new program intends to bring the professional and innovative skill set necessary to tackle the challenges of today's art market. It is primarily designed for university graduates who are currently active in the art market or who intend to be. Professional experience will also be taken into consideration. If the courses structure offers an important place to gallery management and contemporary art, it aims to offer a broad knowledge of the art market in general. The lecturers will be recognized professionals and university professors. The courses will be taught entirely in English. A pragmatic approach to the art market mechanisms will be privileged by the study of practical cases and by workshops.

Due to its cultural density, its significance as a financial center, its international connections and its role as an art market hub, Zurich can be considered as the ideal place to host this program. The University of Zurich established and independent organization will make possible the convergence of academic and professional expertise.
