*Venice Arts Seeks Teaching Artist for Digital Animation *

Venice Arts seeks a practicing animator and arts educator to teach and lead
its Digital
Animation program for 14-18 year old youth. Digital Animation is a
multi–disciplinary workshop
that integrates diverse forms of animation from fine art to cartoons, to
provide students with
foundation knowledge in animation with an emphasis on non-fiction
storytelling, while exploring
both experimental and traditional forms of animation. Instructor should have
both historical and
contemporary knowledge of animation. Over the course of the session,
students should
express themselves through the completion of multiple forms of animated
projects—from
zoetropes, flipbooks, stop-motion, cutout animation to projects created
using computer
animation software.

About Venice Arts
Venice Arts is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to ignite
youths’ imagination,
mentor their creativity, and expand their sense of possibility through high
quality, accessible
media–based arts education programs. Venice Arts also serves as a catalyst
for people of all
ages, living in low–income or underrepresented communities, to create and
share personal and
community stories through photography, film, multi–media and visual arts.

Terms
Instructors are independent contractors who are paid a fixed rate of $3,120
for workshops
taught over a 22–week period (with a 6-week break from mid-December until
February). Each
workshop is 3 hours long and meets on Saturday afternoons.

Working on a contract basis, the Lead Artist for Digital Animation is
responsible for:
• Building lesson plans that support the learning goals identified by Venice
Arts
• Nurturing volunteer artists, who work as educators and mentors in the
classroom
• Managing the class, including identifying the need for equipment and
supplies and
communicating about behavioral, attendance, or other problems
• Assuring a quality presentation of youth work for the spring culminating
event and for
features on the web

Qualifications
The ideal artist for this workshop is an animation arts educator who works
comfortably across
multiple disciplines. Experience teaching youth in this age group (14-18
years old), and
honoring them as young artists/creators is required. An understanding of
Visual and
Performing Art Standards is a strong plus, as is experience developing art
education lesson
plans. Must be able to both lead and work as a member of a teaching team.

How to Apply
To be considered as a Lead Artist for Digital Animation, please
electronically submit your
résumé, along with a cover letter highlighting relevant experience, and a
sample syllabus with the position title in the subject line, via email to *
cathy@venice-arts.org*; no phone enquirie please. Fall session begins
October 1st; we hope to hire a contract artist by that date.
