ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Stipend position
Reports to: Board of Directors

Moving Arts, an award-winning non-profit theatre (under $100,000 annual budget), seeks Artistic Director to serve as chief executive charged with overseeing and producing artistic product. Strong background in directing for the stage, and strong artistic production skills, a must. Previous experience as an arts leader, and connections within the theatrical communities of Los Angeles and
elsewhere, are a plus.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for career advancement for someone currently working in an artistic capacity in the performing arts.

The position offers a small starting stipend (TBD), with potential for
transitioning into salary based upon overall revenue growth. The organization has opportunity for growth under an ambitious, determined, and skillful executive who is ready for a new opportunity and who can help lead us there.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Artistic Director is the artistic leader of Moving Arts, its primary resident producer, and its ambassador to other communities.

The position reports to the Board of Directors. Responsibilities break down into four main areas: artistic planning and production, fund development, and community relations.

Artistic planning and production
Artistic Director is responsible for the artistic product of Moving Arts, ensuring that work reflects Moving Arts' artistic vision, and applying quality-control measures to production. Specific areas include:

Season planning
• With Management and Literary Manager's input, develop, execute, and evaluate programming for each year
• read scripts, confer with directors, agents, playwrights, and other contacts in the theatrical world, and attend readings of new works

Production
• set production budgets in conjunction with Managing Director
• attend auditions, rehearsals and provide production notes as needed
• supervise budget expenditures
• otherwise ensure artistic quality
• review/approve marketing and public relations elements
• seek opportunities to extend the life of works developed and/or produced by Moving Arts

Fund development

• work with Development Director or other personnel to identify donor prospects, attending solicitation meetings, and maintaining a personal relationship with key donors and prospects
• provide support to grant applications and other fundraising
events/opportunities

Community relations

• Act as a spokesperson and advocate for Moving Arts to all parties, including Resident Artists, Staff, the Board, donors, members of the press, foundations and other benefactors on artistic matters

Other duties

• Regular attendance at board meetings (estimated as bi-monthly) with report of progress
