POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor �Foundation
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 27, 2007

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. in studio art or record of extraordinary creative/
professional achievement. Strong body of creative work as demonstrated by portfolio.
Demonstrated successful teaching at the college level, particularly in foundation courses.
Broad understanding of foundation-level course content and concepts, specifically in
regard to drawing, life drawing and design. Strong portfolio of work by applicant's
students. Ability to work with students and faculty in the context of a multidisciplinary art
department. Ability to communicate and work effectively within an ethnically and
culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two years or more of full-time college-level
teaching experience or equivalent. Knowledge of contemporary and historical art and art
issues. Substantial professional record of exhibitions, commissions or projects. Record of
academic service. Ability to teach a foundation digital course. Ability to coordinate a
foundation program.

DUTIES: Teaching assignment to consist of two courses per semester from the following:
Foundation 2D, Foundation 3D, Foundation Drawing, Foundation Life Drawing, Foundation
Painting, Foundation Digital. Additional assignment per semester of Foundation Program
coordination, or one lower- or upper-division course as appropriate to the individual's
range of expertise. Additional duties to include student advisement, curriculum
development, service on graduate student committees, and committee work and other
service in the department, college and university. The Retention, Tenure and Promotion
process at the department, college and university levels involves review of the individual's
ongoing activity in the areas of teaching and teaching-related activities (including
curriculum development, student advising and involvement in student activities); creative,
scholarly and professional activity; and service to the department, college, university and
community.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience.

materials: letter of application addressing minimum and desired/preferred qualifications
and duties specified in this job listing, statement of teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae
with contact information including e-mail address, three letters of recommendation from
professionals in the field, official or unofficial copies of transcripts from all undergraduate
and graduate study (official copies will not be required until requested), fully filled-out
CSULB SC-1 form (downloadable online or available by request). All of the above materials
must be in hard-copy form. NO DIGITAL DOCUMENTS OR EMAIL LETTERS.
Also include 20 still images (35mm slide or digital on disk) of work by applicant's
students, twenty still images of work by applicant (35mm slide or digital on disk), and
SASE large enough for return of documentation materials.
Applicants may also wish to include copies of their performance evaluations from prior
teaching experience, copies of publications about their work, and other additional forms
of documentation of their work or work by their students.
Digital images should not exceed 800x600 pixels, and should be presented either as a
collection of JPEG files in a folder along with a caption list, or captioned images contained
within a single PDF. NO POWERPOINT.
Additional supporting materials, including sample syllabi, may be required of finalists.
