Michigan Central is a new 30-acre innovation district in Corktown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood, that includes new and revitalized buildings, multiple outdoor plazas, open spaces, and 1.2 million square feet of interior public space. Michigan Central seeks to hire director(s) responsible for shaping, elevating, and implementing the vision, mission, and strategy of the Michigan Central art program, ensuring it richly contributes to and is an integral part of this growing world-leading community focused on mobility and society. The art program combines public realm interventions, exhibitions and performances, research and production, residencies, and events to deliver compelling experiences for visitors and communities. It focuses on contemporary emergent and interdisciplinary forms of creative practice that blur boundaries and respond to societal and technological developments.

The director(s) will be responsible for the artistic and strategic vision of the Michigan Central art program. The director(s) of the Michigan Central art program are chiefly responsible for establishing the art program budget and cultivating the necessary resources and revenue streams for its sustainability. This role is responsible for effectively communicating the organization’s and art program’s vision and goals; inspiring and facilitating team members, Art Program Advisory members, and other stakeholders; leading ambitious and engaging artistic programming of local and global significance; and deepening relationships in the Detroit community and beyond. Michigan Central is open to applications from individuals, pairs, or collectives.

You will complete this work on behalf of Michigan Central as a consultant. The compensation range for this position is 165–185K USD/year. This opportunity is a three-year contract that can extend for another three years. Applications are requested as soon as possible.
