Public service job category: Curator or Head Curator

Background
Les Abattoirs opened in 2000 in a renovated nineteenth-century building and is both the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum for the City of Toulouse and the Occitanie Regional Fund for Contemporary Art (Fonds régional d’art contemporain—FRAC). This joint institution brings together exhibitions, permanent collections, a public gallery, workshops, an auditorium, a library, a restaurant and a bookstore on one site. In accordance with the roles and responsibilities associated with the FRAC label, Les Abattoirs must also work directly with local and regional stakeholders to disseminate and circulate its collections and artistic production within the Occitanie region.

Job description
Under the authority of the committee (the Syndicat Mixte) and as part of the tasks entrusted by the trustees (City of Toulouse, Occitanie Region, the State), you will be responsible for the strategic, scientific, artistic and operational leadership of the Museum and of FRAC Occitanie.

You will oversee and guarantee the scientific quality of the conservation and management of the collections (conservation, restoration, research and promotion of artworks), as well as their dissemination and circulation. You will determine the acquisitions policy for the collections of artworks of both the Museum and the FRAC, the latter in conjunction with the FRAC Occitanie Montpellier and the Regional Museum of Contemporary Art in Sérignan.

You will develop an ambitious, attractive and inclusive programme for the exhibition of modern art and contemporary creation, on site and in the region. Working in partnership with all those involved in the region’s art industry, you will be associated with the FRAC label, providing the region with a professional resource and supporting artists in their career path towards professionalism, through the implementation of specific and regular activities designed for professionals in the art world.

You will help grow the reputation of Les Abattoirs through the development of partnerships and involvement in international, national and regional networks. You will increase the number of visitors, implement a policy aimed at raising the public’s awareness of art and develop a diverse cultural programme with multiple approaches to arts outreach, while promoting societal values such as equal opportunity, gender equality, diversity, accessibility and cultural, human and environmental rights.

You will be responsible for developing and overseeing the budget and implementing Les Abattoirs’ multi-year investment plan, while taking into consideration the requirements for the building’s ecological transition. You will be supported by the Deputy director, director of finance and administration.

You will manage a team of what is currently 40 staff members.
