Joe Shepley Choral Composition Competition

AMP's picture

The Namasté Women's Choir is a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles. Part of our mission is to perform works by living composers. In order to reach out to and discover more composers, we are launching our first annual choral composition competition.

Requirements:
-Piece must be written for women's choir - up to 4 parts (minimal splits within a part is okay).
-Piece must be unpublished and never performed for a public audience.
-Piece must be under 15 minutes long.
- Piece must be a cappella or accompanied by no more than 2 solo instruments.
-The text must illustrate a sense of awe (about the universe, nature, love, music... anything!) as that is the theme of our spring concert. The text must be universal, not expressing the beliefs of one particular religion. Texts must be cleared by the composer and can be in any language.
-Composer may be any age from any part of the world.

Submissions must be postmarked by February 1, 2006. All entries must include:
1) one printed score (preferably done with notation software and not by hand)
2) one printed text, separate from the score
3) one recording of the piece in any format and of any sound quality (midi is fine).

Materials will not be returned.

Prize:
$750.00 cash reward. $250 to help reduce travel costs if the composer chooses to attend the premier.
