HIRING: Middle School Play Director

WHAT: Marlborough, an all girls school, is hiring an experienced, professional director for its upcoming Middle School Play.

WHERE: Marlborough is located in Hancock Park at 250 S. Rossmore Avenue in Los Angeles, CA

WHEN:
· Auditions - February 13-16 from 3-5:30.
· Rehearsals – April 9 – May 9. There is a 4 ½ week rehearsal period for the show that includes daily afterschool rehearsals from 3-5:30 as well as Saturday rehearsals from 9-5. During the final week or so of production, rehearsals may go as late as 8pm.
· Production – There are three shows only:

3pm on Thursday, May 10 and 7pm shows on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12

WHO: You will be supported in your work by an in-house producer, a full time technical director, as well as professional costume, lighting and set designers, (although the set for the production will be minimal.) In addition to auditions and rehearsals, you will need to attend weekly production meetings.

HOW (MUCH): There is a $3000 stipend

WHAT ELSE: We have not chosen a play, so as to give the director the possibility of choosing a project that she/he is passionate about. We encourage all participants to present possible suggestions for production when submitting their materials. Due to the limited rehearsal time, the show must not exceed 60 minutes (45 minutes is ideal) and should have roles for approximately 20-30 students. Play suggestions do not need to be limited to all-female casts, as the girls are well accustomed (and quite good) at playing male characters. Marlborough is also open to experimental works, physical theatre, original devised productions, and adaptations, as well as traditional scripted works.

SUBMISSIONS: To be considered for this position, please submit:
· A professional resumé or CV, that includes your work with youth.
· Pictures, video and/or a website that demonstrates past work.
· Suggestions for production as well as a brief (1 page or less) description of your approach to the material. If you do not have an idea in mind, we are considering an adaptation of Pinocchio and would be interested in what approach you might take.
· Three professional references

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Professional directorial experience ( this may include directing under a 99-seat Equity waiver contract)
· Experience working with youth, particularly middle school students
· High expectations of youth theatre – this is not your typical high school production of Grease or Oklahoma
· A willingness to experiment, push boundaries and reach high
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Proven track record of collaborating in a professional environment
· A clean FBI record – you will need to get finger-printed if hired

HOW TO APPLY: Please send all materials (including an active e-mail address) via e-mail to gleason.bauer@marlboroughschool.org or to:

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: To be considered, your materials must be received no later than December 15, 2011

WHAT TO EXPECT: Once your materials have been received, a confirmation e-mail notifying you that we are in receipt of your submission will be sent to you. If you have not heard anything further from us before January 13, 2012, you can assume that have filed your materials for later reference.
